About Us
About the Cheshire Nursery School . . .

The Cheshire Nursery School is family owned and operated by Suzanne Miller and her
daughter Nicole. The Millers opened The Carrot Patch Early Learning Center at 235
Johnson Road in Hamden in 2005 to offer a first-rate children's program not widely
available outside the New Haven/Yale community. The Center has been an amazing
success story, and the Cheshire Nursery School is the natural outgrowth of this
experience.

One of our keys to providing the best possible learning environment for young children
has been the wisdom and guidance of Janice Romo. Jan brings over 35 years
experience in education, from teaching kindergarten through teaching early childhood
teachers at Southern Connecticut State University, and every imaginable role in between
involving the education of young children. She has been a tremendous asset as
Educational Consultant and Staff Developer at The Carrot Patch. And now Jan comes to
the Cheshire Nursery School as the Executive Director.

Jan and Suzanne have established solid ties to Cheshire's Darcey School in order to
provide a meaningful link between the preschool and kindergarten programs offered at
Darcey and the programming and activities presented at the Cheshire Nursery School.
Our goal is to enhance the experiences provided at Darcey by providing fun and
interesting enrichment opportunities as well as directed discovery and free-play, without
duplicating the public school day. Through an individualized approach to learning based
on the Bank Street model and
The Creative Curriculum, and the employment of only
professional degreed teachers, the Cheshire Nursery School program will stand on it
own as a meaningful, valuable and fun children's program, even for those not attending
kindergarten at Darcey.
